Reflections on the 2025 Harvest and Holiday Wines

What's on Tom Table

We brought in another fantastic vintage with the 2025 harvest. And the vintage has me thinking about other similar growing seasons – some of my personal favorites! Reminiscent of 2023 and 2018, 2025 was a long, cool vintage producing wines with depth, richness and refinement.

Some recent favorites of mine are the 2018 Dakota Shy Moulds Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2023 Social Currency. Both wines could certainly continue to rest in the cellar for years – but they are stunning now. I would give both a decant – but the 2018 Moulds is also drinking beautifully right out of the bottle. Violets, black cherry and plum aromas and a gorgeous, lush, super layered palate — the flavors are classic Moulds with dark berry, herb, baking chocolate, anise. Bottle age has broadened and deepened the complexity of this wine while still leaving it super fresh and vibrant. Sooo good!

The 2023 Social Currency really does benefit from a long decant. If you can plan ahead, I would decant and return it back to the bottle the night before, insert the cork and then enjoy the following day. The dazzling aromatic complexity, super-refined tannin structure and plush texture support an exceptional mouthful of delicious dark fruits, savory herbs, baking spice and mineral. I love this wine. Treat yourself and enjoy this with friends over the holiday — or just open a bottle on your own!
